An email from my husband..
Dec. 13th, 2001 12:46 pm..who's working on making a mold of a one-of-a-kind Egyptian fossil..one of the biggest things anyone has ever tried to cast (and he's a nervous wreck about)..

Hi All,
I recently sent an all staff e-mail requesting nylons to help with the making of the parallititan humerus mold.
Needless to say it was a strange request and I thought humor would be a good ice breaker. So I wrote the e-mail and sent it out to the staff at the museum.
Our PR person has a good sense of humor and lots of contacts in the Phila. area. So she forwarded the request to a guy named Kline at the Inquirer. Kline writes a local interests kind of column with a humorous bent. This Sunday's paper will have my e-mail in it.
This is strange to me but what the hell.
Remember how much trouble I got into for the Urinator article?

("Urinator" was the name he jokingly gave a dinosaur he found in Montana a few years back. The museum was not amused when the Philly Inquirer reported this as a tongue-in-cheek "fact".)

CRAPasaurus? What was he doing while he found THIS one??
;)
Re: Cute nicknames?
Date: 2001-12-15 09:44 am (UTC)No..I call it "crapasaurus" because it's covered in gypsum, which basically works like water/ice - it gets into cracks, expands as it grows, and blows things apart. It also sorta "chews" up the surface. So you end up with a fossil that has a layer of fossil - a layer of gypsum - another layer of fossil..it gets really hard to figure out what's what, and it pretty much destroyed any confidence I had as a fossil preparator.
And I hold a grudge. :)
