bus conversation/end of the world
Mar. 19th, 2002 10:00 amThere were two people on the bus last night talking about mutual friends - health - death - etc. One said, casually, "Well, these *are* the end days," and they kept on talking.
It reminded me of a Dennis Leary routine, where he described his fear of being on a plane with a bunch of Christians - pilot: "The plane's going to crash!".. Everybody but Dennis: "God, here we come! Hurray!"
Sometimes I just want to plead with people who have so easily accepted "these are the last days"..I want to grab them by the collar and say, "We create our reality. Do you really want to create the end of the world by believing it so strongly?" Or, on my more bitter days, "It's been the end of the world since Christ was born! Get over it!"
At the risk of sounding terribly New Agey, though (or echoing Gandalf too much - "even the smallest of us can make a difference"), I do believe that each of us can affect the whole. If we believe so strongly that This is The End - I think it matters, I think it has an effect. And I refuse to believe it; I don't want to give that thought any power or energy.
"When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall
--think of it, ALWAYS."

Date: 2002-03-19 09:28 am (UTC)(but this isn't really influcaned by the paticular religon I was brough up, more by my dad talking to me about what the bible says and what not. Yeah I belive in it, to an extent)
I don't run around talkinga bout it all the time
and from what dad has told me I guess by a bible stand point it could be called the end timed because some thing that were mentioned are falling into place
But at least they were not the people wtih the posterboard signs screaming in the street that the world is ending and we all need to repent!
