It occurs to me that, with all my mention of cats and fish lately, I probably haven't posted what-all shares our home...I do so, with the cautionary note that I'm aware we have too many critters.

~~
4 cats
- Hades (girl), Lurk (boy) - both about 4; both black; both came to us as kittens. Hades was purchased, Lurk was a feral kitty given to me by someone at the museum. Both are my fault.
- Benjamin (boy) - about 3;tabby/siamese mix; came to us as a kitten. Was abandoned (probably with the entire litter) at around 5 weeks old in NJ right before Hurricane Floyd hit - a few days before our wedding. This kitty has ADD, and is entirely Ferret's fault.
- Livingston (boy) - 7?; maine coon; given to us on our wedding day by a friend of Ferret; entirely his fault. Very loving kitty, tends to drool a lot.

5 chinchillas - all my fault
- Bella (girl - beige) - unwanted/unexpected baby; mom belonged to a museum employee; around 7 or 8 now. Closest thing to a familiar I have. Very socialized; very brave - has attacked rabbits, dogs, and other chinchillas.
- Gomez (boy - black velvet) - started off as a school pet, but when his owner changed schools, he had to go; museum didn't want him, so I took him; around 13-14 now.
- Ripley (girl - black velvet) - daughter of the above
- Fox (boy - dark grey - not sure of color phase) - son of above - Ripley and Fox were littermates
- Fred (girl - standard grey) - crippled chin donated to museum by a Petco that couldn't sell her; museum didn't want her; I adopted her. Very sweet critter, but due to Bella's aggressiveness, has to live alone. :(

1 dog - his fault
- Gemma (girl) - mostly shepherd - still new to family, still not getting along with the cats (sigh) - Livingston and Hades attacked her within 5 minutes of her coming into the house, so it's been a grudge match ever since. :/

1 tank of fish- shared blame; accepted by him, now my responsibility
To put this in perspective:
October 1999. I'm working at the haunted house. Ferret has just agreed to help out a friend by taking care of 4 monitor lizards. Their tanks covered our dining room table, and I ended up taking care of them, even though I really didn't have the time. I, of course, complained about this. During that conversation, the phone rings - our housemate answers, then tells us, "Hey - Adrian's bringing over the fish, plants and frog!"
Silent glare.
Ferret scrambles to explain: "He's moving to California, and he can't bring them along - so I said we'd take them!"
Laura joins in, "I'll take the frog..!"
glare..glare...glare...
So 3 more tanks were in the house (until Laura finally took the frog tank). 1 tank housed a ciclid and some catfish; the other, guppies and assorted little guys.
When we moved in 2000, the ciclid died and the tanks sat outside all summer until I finally said, "Fine, I'm taking over!" and I combined the tanks.
We're now down to 2 of the original guppies and 1 very large catfish.
I've since bought 2 bettas, and he's bought me 2 angelfish.

1 savannah monitor - his, but has become mine
- Wolfgang (male, 3 or 4 years old) - about 3-1/2 feet long - very mild-mannered, most of the time. I like him lots. So does Ferret, but (as is probably obvious by now) he's not as good about taking care of critters, so Wolfgang has basically been mine for the past year. (Unofficially.) Wolfgang was a birthday present from a group of people at the museum to Ferret.

1 bearded dragon - gloriously my fault
- Carter (male, 3 years old) - his mom was a sandfire (a brilliant orange, very expensive), his father was a gold color - he's a very pretty color, not very orange, but he would be if I could keep him outside more (which I'm working on). He was a wedding gift - basically a fellow keeper gave me $240 while we were at a reptile show and told me to go pick one out. Carter cost $200 - the most I've ever spent on a pet - but I think he was worth it.

1 Tokay gecko - my fault/rescue
- Duck (male, I have no idea how old) - I rescued him from a housemate who had had someone give this gecko to her but she didn't really know what to do with him. He was very underweight, blind in one eye, and had lost/regrown his tail at some point.
Frankly, I thought he would have died by now. I know he's old, his appetite is sporadic at best, and he's perhaps the grumpiest animal I've ever had the displeasure to know.
But..as long as he's eating and moving around, I won't give up on him.

2 tarantulas - his fault
- 1 brazil black - under a year old - very pretty
- 1 horned baboon spider - 2? - deadly
He likes them; they're low maintenance; I think they're pretty cool; he's very careful with them. He had more, but after a small die-off recently, has decided to not get any more. Personally, I hope he changes his mind...

1 tank of Madagascar hissing cockroaches
Not really pets; they're food for the monitor lizard (and the spiders, when they're big enough), but I'll include them anyway.

And perhaps now my concern about moving makes a little more sense, eh..? *eyeroll*

But *moving*?

It took us...3, maybe 4 cars to move them all.
And that was before the dog!
