Blast with the past: An all-star dino party
By Gayle Ronan Sims
Inquirer Staff Writer
Some well-heeled guests had a little too much fun - with the dinosaurs - at Allen Iverson's and Magic Johnson's Coast to Coast NBA All-Star Finale early Monday morning at the Academy of Natural Sciences.
According to academy spokeswoman Lorie Klein, some overheated guests climbed on the platform of the resin-cast replica of T-Rex in Dinosaur Hall and touched the dinosaur, though "things didn't get out of control."
Well, that's not how actor Ashton Kutcher, a guest at the sold-out, invitation-only party, tells it. On CBS's Late Late Show yesterday morning, Kutcher told how things were rocking at the bash and guests started to climb on the dinosaurs. (Kutcher plays Michael Kelso on That '70s Show.) Kutcher and '70s cast mate Danny Masterson (who plays Steve Hyde) told host Craig Kilbourne that it was so cool to be at this wild party.
DJ Biz Markie stopped the music and said the party was over if the revelers did not get off the dinosaurs - at which point they threw money at the dinos. (Go figure . . . ) After all, "the 500-dollar-a-bottles of champagne were sold out," Klein said.
We are "not proud that it happened," Klein said. The museum officials are not aware of any damage to the dinosaurs, but "we are still assessing the damage to the hall from the party."
