Eventually...around 2AM.
He'd had a surprisingly strong drink with dinner around 10:30 and needed to sober up before he could drive.

We actually ended up with 2 surprise overnight guests that I was too tired to greet and that left with him far too early this morning.

Sorta strange, but ok.

Strong drink or not, I personally think he should've called home at the very least. Concerned wives are something that comes with any good marriage.

But that's just my two cents :-) Glad to hear he's ok!
