I was going through my bookshelves just now, saying hi to old friends, and thought it might be fun to nudge 'em forward so you can say hi, too. Because I love these books so so much.
(I am NOT including authors/books I'm pretty sure you already know. Example: I'm currently re-reading a bunch of the Pern books, and almost every damn one of the original books makes me cry and long to see Pern dragons on the big screen - and none of this Dragonheart crap, I want Reign of Fire-esque quality!!! But the books aren't making the following list because I'm pretty sure you all know them.)
Ok, so!
Tea with the Black Dragon by R.A.MacAvoy - the story of Mayland Long, a man who was not always a man, and Martha Macnamara, a woman who has always been exactly what she seems to be. Dragons, music, mystery and love...truly a perfect book.
Shaman by Sandra Miesel - in a futuristic world full of bleakness, what if your spiritual guides were an old woman and a humanoid otter?
Little Fuzzy by H Beam Piper - a classic sci-fi novel that questions how we decide what life forms are, and are not, sentient/important..and is much more fun than my description would lead you believe! Available for free download here.
Passing for Human and its sequel, I Vampire, by Jody Scott - yes, I'm cheating by listing both books, but they're radically different novels; I found I Vampire first, and it's such a unique take on the vampire mythos that I had to look for the prequel, which has nothing to do with vampires but everything to do with giddy aliens....no description I can offer will do these quirky books justice
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull - yes, I'm sure y'all have read it, but if you have NOT....d00d, your life is not yet complete...this book hooked me on urban fantasy
