Reive, your story's in my head!
Aaaaaaaack...I've been haunted by Severus all dang day.
Very distracting, I assure you.
"And I'm haunted
by the lives I have loved
and actions I have hated
Haunted
by the lies that wove the web
inside my haunted head.."
- Poe, "Haunted"

Date: 2002-01-29 01:09 pm (UTC)And just you wait until I get home, I had a really *horrible* inspiration for the Draco interrogation scene while being frustrated over embroidery thread. So I'll manage to get at least one more chapter up tonight, maybe two, as I think after that Severus needs to have another first person sharing moment with us.
I'm also realizing there are SOOOOO many letters that I'm not going to be able to fit them all into the story, and I migth just have to post them all as an appendix when I'm done, because they aren't doing me any good sitting around my house.
More tonight!
Date: 2002-01-29 06:12 pm (UTC)The idea of there being more letters than the story comfortably dictates is...daunting, intriguing. Here's one vote for the appendix.
And a thought: If you were to talk to Rowling, I wonder if the voice she hears is the same as yours? It would be an interesting conversation.
(I tend to think yes...but then, I do believe that characters have a life beyond one author's writings. The Liavek series is one example; another that I can't find a title for is a series by S.M. Stirling, Shirley Meier, and Karen Wehrstein - "The Sharpest Edge", "The Cage," "Shadow's Son," "Snowbrother" and others...I find these books intriguing because basically 3 authors found themselves writing about the same alternate universe, "The Fifth Millenium," at about the same time..unfortunately, I can't find the true history of the creation of the series, but here's a good summary: http://www.jadent.com/Rocky/fifth.htm - at any rate, it's a series I find fascinating, if only from a writer's perspective..)
(babble babble...)
Re: More tonight!
Date: 2002-01-29 06:41 pm (UTC)I'm not sure how much she really interacts with her Snape though, in interviews she's just very much about "oh he's dreadful" but I suspect she knows that's what most of her audience always wants to hear. I say this only because I've read interviews with other actors from the film who said that they were absolutely sure, Rickman knew things about the plot and his character they didn't, thanks to his discussions with Rowling. And since he was always her first choice for the part, and my characterization comes out of the movie so much -- maybe so -- jeez, that's long and roundabout, eh?
Anyway, the most recent letter in the story is what? 23, and I'm about to write 24? How many have appeared in the story so far? 4 or 5? of these. If they keep coming at the same rate, that means a potential 60 or so letters, with only 10 - 20 revealed when I finish UG, and while yes, the letters are eventually revealed that's a huge bulk to work into the text of that moment, so I think I will put them up as an appendix when I am done. I can't _not_ share them. They are such things, and he's certainly not writing them for me, eh?
Re: who's he writing for?
Date: 2002-01-29 07:01 pm (UTC)I admit, Rowling doesn't seem like the sort that would be that ear. But if she's really focusing on Draco in the future - well, who knows?
I'm reminded of "God Game" - or even Stephen King's passage in "Danse Macabre," which hit a strong note with me...where he talks about story ideas being like a demon that comes and sits on your chest and says, "You will write me down..or I will sit here until you give in."
That's how I've always felt about writing, at least. Pursued. Hounded by a voice until I give in and scribble down its words...usually at some ungodly hour. :/ :)
Re: who's he writing for?
Date: 2002-01-29 07:10 pm (UTC)I'm sorry, this is me being really weird.
And yes, that's exactly it. The creature sitting on your chest, until you tell their story. Frequently the story they need you to tell, it is not in your narative, but in the details you use to make them real to others. They just want to be fed.

Wishing I had a deviant answer..
Date: 2002-01-29 05:21 pm (UTC)Like a ghost we used to have. If you mentioned him, you would feel this sort of rush towards you, then a holding of breath.."What are they going to say next?" expectant feeling.
A little of both.
And this is my busy week at work...dang hard to concentrate when you feel like someone's staring at you, arms crossed, daring you to turn and react.
*sigh*
Re: Wishing I had a deviant answer..
Date: 2002-01-29 06:57 pm (UTC)I ask because I wonder if you're wondering what happens next, or if your wondering takes the form of his tapping his foot at you to be out of his current stasis (to go back to the matter of characters speak to many in one voice).
Having been a ghost more than once..
Date: 2002-01-29 07:05 pm (UTC)Though I think I'm innocent in this case.
It's been more a case of...oh, how to put it? Like having visited with someone, and the visit worried you..their presence lingers.
I'm really not describing it well. :/
