$WINTERHOLIDAY shopping !!
Nov. 24th, 2011 05:06 pmNeed some shopping ideas? I'm so here for you.
Shop at home and support local craftspeople, artists and merchants such as.....
Jewelry:
* Alanya Divine Jewelry
Gorgeously unique wire wrapped jewelry...necklaces, elf ear tips, rings, hair ornaments, earrings..she's played with corsetry and mask making...she's simply amazing.
Her store is closed until the 29th BUT you can peek at her Facebook page to see what she's up to...this album is probably best.

* Natural Charm Jewelry
Need something unique, handmade, and perhaps at a lower price point? Julie makes adorable affordable jewelry from clay, flowers, herbs, candy...whatever strikes her fancy. Some of it's Halloweeny. Some of it's great for the gourmet cook in your life. And again, she can do custom. Do you have flowers from an event that meant a lot to you? Talk to Julie about having it made into jewelry!
Her etsy store is here. Love her lots. You will, too.

* AFMetalsmith
Amanda creates some of my all time favourite Irish-themed jewelry. You'll find Celtic critters on pendants - owls, ravens, deer - as well as elegantly simple rings and unique enameled pieces. Believe you me, I am not doing her work justice. Go take a look - her store is here.

Stuff:
* MUSIC!
Buy from the indie labels - the bar bands - the folks playing at the ren faire.
Go ye to Bandcamp and download your fav tracks - make personal CDs while supporting those wonderful musicians.
You might want to start with
s00j's site here. (You'll be wicked glad you did.)
* BOOKS! BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS!!!
Go ye to Facebook! Peruse LJ! We all of us - every single one of us - have connections to authors galore and they all have books. They're all willing to sign their books. Don't buy at Barnes and Noble or Amazon...go local first.
This goes to local shopping as well. Support independent bookstores! Two of my favs are..
* Annie's Book Stop
Annie's Book Stop is in Worcester, MA, they offer new as well as pre-read books, and their staff is VERY willing to help you track down titles you're looking for. (Check them out on Facebook, too.)
* Lowry's Books
Lowry's Books is one of those new-and-used-and-holy-crap-that's-rare bookstores that are so rare these days. It encompasses several store fronts in Three Rivers, MI, each store containing another section of books. I can't tell you how much I loved this store. It's HUGE, it's eclectic, and you can support it remotely by using it as your used book source - they will conduct book searches for you. You can also pop in electronically to see what's new by reading their blog.
OTHER STUFF
* Mike's Comics
Indulge the geek in your life. Yes, Think Geek is awesome..but Mike's Comics carries stuff from such classic series as Sapphire and Steel, Blake's 7, Farscape, and more. Books, comics, toys, audio books...lots of great stuff. Go look. :)
* Catch a Dream
shadowwolf13 makes some of the most unique dreamcatchers I've ever seen. Right now, she's only doing custom orders, but if you're looking for something different this year for your gift giving, you should really check out her creations. (And of course, contact her SOON!)

(this one was done for a wedding so it has the couple's name and wedding date in it!)
* Shadow Elements
Mary is a Kutztown local that makes lovely stained glass items, pet beds, eye pillow masks, buckwheat-filled meditation pillows, tote bags, and custom painted denim. If you're looking for something unique, do check her out!

* MayFaire Moon
Spoil your sweetie. Buy her a corset. :)
ysobelle, creator of the TARDIS corset, does custom work. She'll work out a payment plan with you. Or you can shop from her stock pieces at her Etsy store (though, really, you want a custom corset. None other will fit as well or be as comfortable.) Ping her on Facebook and make some many-ribboned magic happen for the holidays!
