how we respond
Sep. 29th, 2011 12:22 pmThere has been a recurring theme around and in my life regarding how one responds to negative or narcissistic people.
When you see someone act badly towards another, what do you do? Some of us respond in amazing heroic ways. Some of us duck and walk the other way, or hold our tongue, so that we won't be the next target.
While I haven't always spoken up as loudly as I should have in every situation, I have spent the better part of my life speaking up or pushing back or simply questioning what's been heard or seen. It's not an easy path. But I don't know any other.
This quote, shared today on FB, made me think about that.
I swore never to be silent
whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation.
We must always take sides.
Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
~ Elie Wiesel
Something to think about.
