beating a dead dead LJ horse

Just as a reminder...
A timeline of LJ screw ups.
(And also, this is a reminder of how LJ deleted varied interests as searchable topics last year.)
And I quote:
In December, 2007, when 6A announced the sale, InsaneJournal's membership doubled from 60,000 to 120,000 in a single month. Some of that was due to the slow death of GreatestJournal, but continued growth suggests Squeaky should send flowers and candy to 548 4th Street, San Francisco, California.
(Some really interesting stats here.)
InsaneJournal membership as of December 2009:
* Total accounts: 555792
* ... active in some way: 84246
* ... that have ever updated: 292481
* ... updating in last 30 days: 36271
* ... updating in last 7 days: 13861
* ... updating in past 24 hours: 4374
Are males or females more likely to maintain journals?
* Male: 48025 (40.3%)
* Female: 71208 (59.7%)
* Unspecified: 220017
(you can monitor these stats here.)
I don't have a history for Dreamwidth, but as of today, the stats over there are:
# Total Accounts: 465416
# That are active in some way: 19496
# That have ever posted an entry: 37612
# That have posted an entry in last 30 days: 11128
# That have posted an entry in the last 7 days: 7276
# That have posted an entry in the last 24 hours: 3541
The gender breakdown of our account holders:
* Female 28645 (51.0%)
* Male 5157 (9.2%)
* Other 788 (1.4%)
* Rather not say 21604 (38.4%)
Considering the still-new status of DW, that's pretty interesting, though it shows (IMO) that there are a lot of placeholder accounts. Mine's one of them.
(stat monitoring here.)
LJ is still the heavy hitter:
* Total accounts: 24324587
* ... active in some way: 1922613
* ... that have ever updated: 14126044
* ... updating in last 30 days: 983635
* ... updating in last 7 days: 509081
* ... updating in past 24 hours: 184395
Gender
Are males or females more likely to maintain journals?
* Male: 3138822 (35.2%)
* Female: 5767729 (64.8%)
* Unspecified: 4050743
