otoh, anybody could Google me and find things, so maybe it is better to direct them to the "safe" version, in the hope that they won't bother searching for the others.

Date: 2009-12-07 03:10 pm (UTC)When I get a new customer or a new employee candidate, I generally do a quick search.
I've never completely ruled out an employee based on what I could find out on them (without going through a more involved background check, which I haven't yet felt the need to do, although it is SOP for a lot of other companies in my industry), and most of what I learned was nothing compared to what I could learn working with them for a couple of days, but it gave me some idea of what they were about.
Of course, I'm also a lot more tolerant of things than other employees might be, so to me it's just a way to get to know them better and see if they're a good fit.
By the same token, I also realize there's a good chance potential customers are googling me and seeing what they can find out. I haven't gone back over anything written prior to starting the business, but I have filtered what I've written since.
