Hooray for having twice as many options at 2am on Saturday night at the bar!

I don't recall you hanging around in bars at 2am on a Saturday night, looking for a hook-up...

True. You just don't strike me as a barfly type. :-)

Great places for people-watching.
Especially during the frantic 2AM hook-up attempts.

I can picture you with those Olympic point-cards, rating the hook-ups (levels of desperation, noise, amount of skin-on-skin contact...). Now I wish bars also offered popcorn. ;-)

Amusingly enough... yes!

When I went to the Out & Equal Conference last Fall, I was honestly surprised to be handed a sampler of Hallmark gay-themed greeting cards!

I've probably known more people who are genuinely bisexual than people who are flat-out gay. And some of my early learning-about-sexuality was happening around the same time that L.A. Law introduced Amanda Donohoe as C.J. Lamb, apparently the first regular character on American TV to be bi.

Rumor: supposedly L.A. Law's producer David E. Kelley wanted C.J. to be gay, but the network didn't want that since the show was a soap opera with relationship hookups so they wanted at least the chance for her to date men. So Kelley and Co. decided Okay, she's bi, produced the first season she was on, and made a bit of TV history. I also like that the show waited to make her sexuality obvious, because they didn't want her sexuality to be the focus. I think it was well-handled, especially for the early '90s. I wonder if we're doing much if at all better at media representations of bisexuality now.

Meanwhile, I do what I can to understand that part of sexuality. Thanks for the heads-up and the link.

P.S. Author Christa Faust said on her Twitter "Guys think bi girls are hot, but don't realize we might actually run off and leave them for the girl they wanted us to make out with."

I loved CJ a lot.

One of the issues I've seen with how people handle bisexuality, and that I don't see discussed often, is that in the gay community there's sometimes been a stigma attached to it. As in, "We want lesbian-only spaces because bi women might leave us for men."

Couple that with the attitude I often see of, "Well, she's bi but she really needs a man so that woman she's with isn't really a threat," and it all gets very confusing.

I can still quote great whacks of C.J.'s dialogue. The show runners knew they had something special with her. "Look, this is a SLAPP suit, and I'm a little disappointed. Sending in four lawyers, trying to scare me, that's not very nice. I bet one you doesn't even know the facts of this case, and it's probably -- you [points to the one lawyer who actually doesn't know them]. See, if you'd done your research, you'd have sent in a pretty boy. Someone to seduce me into a settlement. What's his name? Becker. Saw his video."

Trivia: Douglas Adams considered Amanda Donohoe as a potential Trillian, back in the mid-90s when someone asked him what his ideal Hitchhiker's film cast would be.

I've heard hints and rumblings that sound like that. From a remove of my still-straight POV, but noticeable.

I don't like thinking of people in relationships as a "threat." Maybe I'll manage to avoid that thought.

I hope you feel inspired and energetic enough to write more about this later. Sorry about the cold!
