Heh. Ex-fiance-from-Hell was definitely that, among other more sociopathic things. Another ex had a much more subtle version of it, but that was also a long-distance relationship so, well, a lot can be hidden if you don't see someone from day to day, or even month to month.
Filed 'em both under "lucky escapes" and have yet more criteria for someone to meet. Of course, first on the list is "does my cat like him?" - cat-at-the-time never did warm up to ex-from-hell, and we were living together the last year of our relationship. I used to joke that my cat had better sense about men than I do...

And yeah, I've had a fair share of narcissists in my life; with distance comes clarity, and I hope I've learned that I don't need that personality type. The brilliance of being in their focus is dazzling, but the overall price is too high.
