Does your bathroom have a nifty theme?

Have you visited a bathroom that was fabulously decorated?

Share your story!

* One friend of mine has a headhunter themed bathroom.

* Another - [livejournal.com profile] annachria - has one where she's painted this amazing mural across all available wallspace showing a beach scene..and just about everything included is poisonous/toxic. But it's so beautifully done that it takes you a few minutes to figure out that you're surrounded by lethal images.

* My own is sorta a combination of black cats and Universal horror - there are a handful of photos of the Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein's Monster, Daughter of Dracula, etc getting into makeup. :)

Ok..your turn!

No theme, but our downstairs bathroom started with white walls, and then blue was painted over with combs and sponges. It's a neat texture.

The upstairs bathroom, we will not redecorate until the kids are older and have finally stopped destroying it. It is currently in 1970s "autumn gold" colors, if beige is part of that palette. It is a rat-stupid idea to make a water-closet in desert colors, so that will change.

I once cleaned a house that had the bathroom painted like a changing tent at a beach. It was so lifelike and phenomenal, I fell on love!

(I'm renting) My bathroom has no theme other than "Oh goddess, the tile is pink, what can we do to make it look less pink?"

Which pretty much equated to a navy shower curtain and brown rugs. LOL

I rented a house once that had a salmon pink bathroom with the WORST sponging ever across its walls. I'm not a fan of sponging to begin with - hate it!!! - but this? This was really bad.

So I repainted it, and told the landlady afterwards. Her response was, "Oh, you mean the bathroom where it looked like I murdered someone? No, that's fine."

Bwahahaha! If it were just paint, we'd have changed it, but this is tile. *wails*

Still, it's a nice bathroom, with a skylight (which makes it cold in winter, but !skylight), and we do our best to ignore the pink tile. :D

I wonder...
They sell these wall sticker thingalas - some are quotes (Target had these a few months ago), some actually look like trees. They're usually marketed towards kids, but..since it IS tile...maybe you could find something large enough and nifty enough..?

(I wish I could think of who made the tree one- it looked like a cherry tree in blossom.)

but it'd have to be both waterproof and removable, as the tile is around the shower/bath stall. I may have to look into them though... vinyl would work.

Right..that's why I'm thinking these might work.

Or you could just do your entire bathroom in GIANT SQUIDS GIANT SQUIDS GIANT SQUIDS!!!

Yours sounds really fabulous!

Mine has a religious theme. I have a giant Last Supper made from those little aquarium rocks, a small mirror surrounded by Mexican-style Marys, a gold-framed picture of some Saint that my friend (who was once a seminarian) gave me, and a small shadowbox type thing of Mary that says PRAY in scrabble tiles. I'm always looking for more kitschy stuff to add.

My friend Collin said he always feels like he should genuflect after washing his hands lol.

Best I have is that L insisted on tearing up the vinyl flooring in my second floor bathroom. Result; a tiled floor was revealed. Not the prettiest tiled floor, but a tiled floor.

But when I see a really nice bathroom, I just think of how much work I'd have to go through to fix up my own bathroom to be halfway as nice. Just on _paper_, too: the actual work'd kill a legion of elephants.

It really isn't that hard.
To do it proper, sure; but..was it green/black/white tile? I know ideally you'd want to probably redo the sink/fixtures/gut the whole thing, but I could see prepping and painting the walls and doing some sort of..something like a half-tree coming from the door and having the branches go across the long wall across from the shower stall, and then continuing the tree theme (spring/summer colours) to the trashcan/toothbrush holder/cup/etc.

And you have that wonderful window, which is also why I'm picturing a tree. Something light and naturey and airy to go with your fondness for green and to take advantage of that natural ilght.

It's greenish tile, in a classic mid-1960s flooring pattern that I don't care for very much. I'd much prefer white hex tiles for the floor, and white subway tiles for the walls. I could be persuaded to do the walls with deep red beadboard and green upper walls, too. A thick marble sink and a clawfoot tub'd be excellent, too.

I like the tree idea. I've actually considered that for my living room-- facing the bookcase dividers with tree trunks, and having the "branches" snake across the ceiling (which I'd love to do as fiber-optic night sky).

When the inside of my head isn't giving me troubles, it can be a pretty awesome place.
