Other ways my coworkers make me nuts
Jan. 11th, 2002 09:23 am"Oh, look at the all the deers! And they're ALL female...look, no antlers!"
Ummm...first, it's deer. Second, young males only have buds, which you probably
wouldn't see from this distance..and bucks start shedding their antlers in January,
so it's *possible* there are indeed males in that herd.
"Really? Where do you get your information?"
I worked as a wildlife rehabber for a few years...oh, and here's an Internet page.
Have fun.
"OH MY GOD! I just saw a wolf out there!"
It's a fox. Foxes and coyotes are relatively common these days.
"Is it going to eat me???"
Are you smuggling chickens or mice into work?
"No.."
That fox has no interest in you, then.
"It's kinda cute...could I make it a pet?"
It's a federal offense to take native wildlife in and try to make it a 'pet'.
Foxes also scentmark things by peeing on them. It smells very strongly.
You don't want a fox in your house.
"Are you sure?"
That it's illegal? Damn straight. But I'll tell ya what...I'll have a friend of mine
bring in a pair of shoes our fox at the Academy peed on, and you can take a
whiff of that..just to see what you think. 'Kay?
Finally, I get the "she's scaring us" look and they stop with the stupid comments.
And I once again tell myself I really DO need to get a good pair of headphones for the office...
