work-related behaviors
Jan. 11th, 2002 09:13 amSo as I mentioned a while back, our manager left the department just before the holidays - leaving us managerless.
Our manager's boss (someone whose department I've been working for now for..13 years?) had a meeting with us yesterday to sorta define roles, redistribute responsibilities, and lay down the law with us. ("I see everything you do, but I don't want to be involved with day-to-day tasks..Tell me everything, but don't tell me details - I don't need to know everything.." You get the idea. Ugh.)
We were to discuss the ongoing attempt to move to FTP within the company, and I asked when procedures, training, and documentation would be provided. I also asked if we'd be shown how exactly FTP works, because I think it's an interesting thing and feel that if we see the whole process, we'll understand it better.
WELL. I asked too many questions (not unusual), and Bossman declared that he had just decided to make me the "FTP Point Person."
Now, personally, I'm rather excited by that, because I've been trying for years to get involved in something more technical than what I do. But there's another person who's now out of the loop - she's been at every FTP meeting that the company's had, and I'm sure she thought this was her baby.
I mean, *I* would have.
She was the first in our group to deal with FTP; I was second. I asked her at the time if she had any documentation or such - she said she didn't - but this was before I knew she'd been attending these meetings. So I'm pretty sure she's just sitting on knowledge. Which will make this new position for me harder - she's usually very sweet, you see, but she can be mucho catty.
I'm really not sure how to handle this. :/
Bossman and I are meeting next week to discuss what exactly he wants from me, and I'll tactfully approach it then. (Oooo..I got to set up a meeting with Bossman...oooo, the power! hehe)
Anyway. I went home last night and said to my beloved, "Well...something sorta good happened today...I think..."
(I really am not sure what to think or expect. On one hand, Bossman knows me pretty well after all these years, and he knows I'm good at dealing with techie stuff - better than just about any of my coworkers; he also knows that I can translate techie talk to humanspeak. On the other hand, Rosann is more up to speed. Not that any of it will matter to my wallet, of course..! So...eh. Wish me luck..)
