something to remind me

My sweetheart has at several times already during the course of our relationship asked me what I want. What are my dreams? What are my goals?

The truth is that I stopped having dreams to work towards because I was so focused on surviving. My goals were: Is my cat safe and fed? Do I have somewhere for us to live?

That's been the focus.

So I just received a holiday present for a friend, and the vendor included a free pendant that I'd also thought of gifting to someone, but I've realized it's something that's rather timely and I'm just gonna wear it for a while. It's a glass-ish tube with metal caps at either end, and a piece of paper inside that reads, "To make your wish come true, you first must have one."

That reminder is timely.

We are just about at the moment of winter solstice as I write this. It's a time of year when I traditionally am struggling the most. This year is a gleeful exception.

We are moving towards the light.

"COME HERE!"

"What?"

"JUST COME HERE!"

"No, you're up to trouble..."

"Shut UP and COME ON!" J was almost bouncing in place. As I stood, she turned and scampered out of my office. Laughing, I followed her, still pretty sure she was up to something of the naughty variety, into the break room.

"LOOK!"

And there was this amazing rainbow. "It's huge. It's perfect. It's just missing the purple..and oh, it's already fading."

I nudged J. "But it's getting more intense. There's your purple."

"Oooo.."

Another coworker walked by. "Did you see?" we squeaked, pointing out the window.

"I did. I almost took a picture of it. But...I like it being kinda a secret."

We had a freak thunderstorm yesterday following a spring-like torrential downpour. I confess I was being whiny-grexy because I had to go outside during the storm. But that spectacular rainbow made up for my wet feet and clothing.

it's a snuggie Christmas, apparently

So hughcasey bought me a pirate Snuggie, and I've been a little (read: a LOT) reluctant to wear the thing. Even when varakesh516 sent me this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhMWk1X6vf0) to try to persuade me it was a damned fine garment.

I like robes, dammit. The whole open-in-the-back thing just does nothing for me. *grumble*

So Bones' staff bought him a Jack Skellington Snuggie for $WINTERHOLIDAY...

Bones: My prezzy is very snuggly.

Me: The vampire duck?

Bones: The Jack snuggy.

Me: Ah!

Bones:

Fine, rain. Fine. I'll just have my own party inside with my beer and my jack snuggie and watch Buffy.
For Lo! I am a party animal!!

Me: Wow. It's like Jack Skellington Panda.

Bones: Hah!

Bones: We would be the hottest couple.

Me:

Hot, right?

Bones: *schwing*

Me: I love you. And I'm totally bringing my pirate snuggie to your parents' house.

Bones: I'll bring snuggiejack.

Me: We will have an amazing New Year's photo.
