wishing on stars
Nov. 19th, 2002 11:12 amI missed the meteor shower.
I had every intention of getting up to watch it, but...ya know. At 5AM, it was far easier to mumble to the cats, "The stars can fall without me," and try to steal just a little more sleep-time.
I've only seen one shooting star, while working in the Poconos.
The sky was just amazing - I don't know that I've ever seen the Milky Way so clearly before (and if I ever get to Bahariya, I suspect I will spend more than a few evenings crying at the sky's beauty).
My mother and I were walking up to our tent. I threw myself down into the grass so I could lose myself to that amazing field of stars - and when one shot across the heavens..well. Words escape me.
And it reminds me of the comets of the 1990's. Being able to see such a thing through the light pollution of Philadelphia absolutely blew me away. I can now better understand why those who came before us thought comets were warnings or messengers, because - even knowing what I was looking at - watching those incredible objects took my breath away.
